With a family, there are always safety concerns that we have for our children. There are so many things that are in our homes that can be very dangerous to our kids and even deadly for them. From the cleaning products that we lock up under the sink to the medications that are locked up in the medicine cabinet. I know that when I go through my home, I do look at things that my kids might get hurt by or that the baby could pull down on himself and it bothers me. I will block off those areas or monitor their play when they are near those items, so that my children can remain safe, but the concern remains. One thing that I know that most of us have in our homes, that we might not have secured in place is the television. Like many others, we have flat panel televisions in our home, but with their thin designs and such, it makes them easier for them to tip over or to be pulled over, which can be harmful or even deadly.


A 2011 US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) report on flat panel TV safety revealed:
·         A child is killed every three weeks from an unsecured TV
·         Every 45 minutes a child visits an emergency room due to a TV tip-over related injury
·         Between 2000 and 2011, 215 fatalities have resulted from TV tip-over
·         An estimated 17,000 people each year, the majority of which are children, are treated for injuries from TV tip-overs
·         Reported cases have increased almost 25% from 2006  to 2010, and over the last 10 years, injuries have increased by 31%

    My kids are not little anymore, but I always kept my cleaning liquids up on a high shelf out of reach and had locks on my cupboards and bifold closets.

    To make home safer for baby, install cabinet door, drawer and toilet locks. Also put a hook and eye (or similar) out of reach on cellar door.

    To try to keep our home safer I have actually put a lot of what could be considered dangerous furniture in the garage until my children are older. I also child proof cupboards and wall sockets

    Attaching dressers to a stud in the wall can prevent your child from tipping it over on themselves if they attempt to climb on the drawers.

    I keep unused light sockets covered up, keep appliances and electronics away from the edge of where they are sitting and keep chemicals out of reach or locked up with childproof locks under the sink.

    Tie up cords from blinds on windows so children cannot reach them.

    Never put sit in toys on raised surfaces, like bouncers or child seats on tables. They pose a fall risk, and if placed on a soft surface like a bed pose a suffocation risk.

    make sure ur blinds cords are up high enough u can tie it in a knot after u cut em or just tie it up high put a toliet lid safty dealy that wont let the toliet seat up i never had that but who' noes that might have helped me when my toilet suddenly stoped up and found a toy truck lodge in there after we replaced the toliet ya get carmeras i had them and when i went out side i new instantly if he cryed liked if u step on the porch to do whatever if i wouldnt have gotton that i would have never left his side

    Make sure all electric outlets are covered. Child proof your cabinets and drawers. Keep all sharp objects out of reach.
